Deepavali means "the array of lights." "Thamasomaa jyotirgamaya"(Lead me from darkness to light) is an Upanishadic prayer: This means that where there is darkness, light is needed.

Sorrow is one form of darkness. Peacelessness is another. Loss is another. Disappointment is one form of darkness. Misery is yet another. Lack of enthusiasm is another. All these are different forms of darkness. To get rid of the darkness of sorrow, you have to light the lamp of happiness. To dispel the darkness of disease, you have to install the light of health. To get over the darkness oflosses and failures, you have to usher in the light of prosperity.

Swami Vivekananda, the great Hindu savant, said that freedom is the first condition of life. And the light of Deepavali is also the light of freedom -- freedom from control, freedom from tyranny and freedom from all that artificially divides humanity.

We should not lead a life of selfishness. That is a wasteful life. It is only in community life, we can you reach out THE LIGHTS ABOVE. Give happiness and take happiness. Happiness is not a one-way traffic, it is a two-way process of give and take.

Lets forgets and forgives the wrongs done by others. Lets breath the air of freedom, festivity and friendliness everywhere.

LETS CELEBRATE THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS, LOVE AND UNITY

HAPPY DEEPAVALI TO ALL !!!

A simple question to all, how many of us Indians (Tamils) and or Hindus know how to speak, read and write our own mother tongue? How many of us stand proud telling that we are Indians or Hindus? How many of us when we meet our fellow Indian friends, say Vanakam, or even converse in Tamil or any other Indian Languages? IF your answer is a 'YES', then you should be proud of yourself that you have not lost your identity. Look at our fellow Malay and Chinese friends, they are so fluent with their respective mother tongues, and they are proud
speaking their languages. On the other hand, we Indian are lacking on this.

Why am I saying this? Well, the reason is simply because I would like to contribute towards improving awareness amongst our Indian community. I have volunteered to conduct Tamil Language and Hinduism
classes. Knowledge gained, adds value whilst knowledge shared multiplies value. Gone are the days whereby the non Brahmins are prohibited to learn the vedas, in this modern world, we are all equal, we all have equal opportunities.

The Tamil language class (to speak, read and write) would be for about 3 months.Upon completion of the Tamil Language class, I would start with the Hinduism classes which comprise lessons on Saiva Sidthantham, the Thirumurai (Tamil devotional songs, such as Thevaram, Thiruvasagam, etc) and Thirumarai (the interpretation of the 4 Vedas, the stories behind them and the Baghvad Gita). These classes are continuous. All classes would be conducted in Tamil(mostly) and English.

Some points to be highlighted to our members. On a few occasions, I have been invited to houses to recite devotional songs(mostly funerals and anthiyesthi ceremonies). It is quite disappointing to know that many of the deceased family members can't even recite a simple song of the thirumurai. It is the greatest bliss for the
deceased when his/her family members recite these songs for they souls rather than a third party reciting it on behalf of the family members. It is time that we all indians realise this point and lets start learning abit about our beautiful language and religion. Lets all together prove to the world that our language and religion is not
fading off. Lets prove that it's ever glowing in our hearts and souls.

Classes are conducted at the Malaysian Hindu Sangam Building , PJS 1.
Time: Every Sunday-6.00pm to 8.00pm (Initially)
Fees: RM40.00 per month.

Those who are interested kindly email me shanthan.penta@ gmail.com
or contact me @ 0123016607.
Any persons(adults and children)are most

welcomed to join these classes.

Be proud to be an indian, be proud of our language and religion.

Not even a month after a temple in Ampang demolished , now another threat for a temple in selangor.

Yesterday i received a group mail from Mr. Mugilan, Ketua biro politik Pemuda MIC on this matter. According to the mail, a temple no.13,jalan 5,Taman Indah Serendah is to be demolished/ removed by the authorities

Today i received a blog post notification from YB Manikavasagam on this. In his post ( Ref : Notice to demolished temple issue) , he claimed that he has send his representative to identify the root cause of the problem while awaiting feedback from State Government.

A notice issued on 10th October 2008 by majilis daerah hulu selangor asking the owner/ person in charge to take action or the temple will be demolished in 7 days.

Is this approved by the state government? What the state EXCO YB Dr. Xavier got to say on this?

Who to be blamed?
The government?
or
The temple committees who still choose to ignore the importance of properly registering their temples with the authorities?

To MIC and PR Indian Reps,
WHEN ALL THIS WILL BE STOPED!!! AND RESOLVED!!! FOR GOOD???

SO WHATS NEXT???

Some of the latest Feedbacks from MIC, PKR, indian YBs and HNDRAF........

DATO M SARAVANAN (MIC)
( Ref : The Ampang Jaya Temple Fiasco)

The Selangor state government should not repeat the mistake done by the former Selangor government, who had in my view, ignored the plea of the Indian community in demolishing temples. That government, especially the then Menteri Besar totally disregarded the views of the community, MIC included. They suffered the backlash at the March general election.

Now Pakatan is going the same way. The MB has not even commented on the issue. Is it because of fear that the government might face backlash from the Malay community for speaking for Hindus?

HINDRAF'S PRESS STATEMENT
( Ref :HINDRAF CHALLENGE DR XAVIER JAYAKUMAR AND
HIS PAKATAN GOVERNMENT)

HINDRAF is shocked with the statement made by Dr.Xavier Jayakumar which appears to echo that of the usual excuses given by BN and UMNO leaders that Temples are demolished because they are not “registered”.

We challenge Dr Jayakumar and his Pakatan Government to produce the necessary provisions of the state Law that stipulated the necessity of the so-called “format”. To add insult to injury he had the audacity to say this is not a Temple but a shrine. Is he trying to indicate that it was okay to demolish a shrine? How less is a shrine than a temple?? The problem with these politicians is they do not give a dam about the feelings of

Hindus and the need to provide and gazette places of worships belonging to Hindus.

HINDRAF have specifically written to the 5 Pakatan led Governments to gazette all temples (which is directly under their purview) but till date they have not taken any positive steps to do the same and keep misleading the people in the same way BN did.

YB MANIKAVASAGAM ( PKR)

Y.B S. Manikavasagam , Member of Parliament Kapar says he is resigning as Deputy Liasion Chairman Parti Keadilan Rakyat Negeri Selangor with immediate effect.

S. Manikavasagam is expected to submit his resignation letter to Parti Keadilan Rakyat , Selangor Chief on Monday 29 Oct 2008.

It shows He is serious and committed in upholding the rights of all Human Being. When conveying this message at Kulai last night he says “I’m not like other leaders holding on position despite knowing Rakyat’s rejection”

WELL......SO WHATS NEXT???

MIC's WALK : TEMPLE DEMOLISHING ISSUE

GOOD JOB YB MANIKAVASAGAM (PKR) AND YB DR XAVIER JAYAKUMAR (PKR)!!!

Is this one of your political strategies or in any way this two YB's suffering from selective amnesia???

When BN rules Selangor...............

Temple demolished. Why? because of UMNO.
MIC to be blamed. Why? because they were not be able to do anything to stop it.

When PR rules Selangor...............

YB Manikavasagam's explanation:-
Temple demolished. Why? Because they maintaining BN trained staffs. ( Ref:Blame MIC for Temple Torn Down)

DEAR YB,

1) ARE YOU TELLING THAT BN GOVERNMENT TRAINING THEIR STAFFS FOR THIS?
or
2) YOU ASKING US NOT TO BLAME IT ON THE GOVERNMENT BECAUSE IT IS CAUSED BY THEIR STAFFS?? AND THE GOVERNMENT IS INNOCENT.

WELL, IF YOU CHOOSE NO.1,
THEN THE ONLY WAY IS TO SACK ALL THE GOVERNMENT SERVANTS???
I WONDER WHAT WILL HAPPEN 'IF' PR FORMS CENTRAL GOVERNMENT. IF ANYTHING HAPPEN, WE CANT BLAME OR ASK THEM, BECAUSE ITS NOT THEIR FAULT, ITS THE BN TRAINED GOVERNMENT SERVANTS FAULT!!!???

IF YOU CHOOSE NO.2,
THEN I THINK YOU SHOULD RETHINK YOUR POLITICAL CAMPAIGN AGAINST BN 6 MONTHS AGO YB.

YB Dr Xavier's explanation:-
We have a format prepared for temples in Selangor to register with the state but this temple was not on the list of registered temples. And it is not a temple, it is a shrine which it is located on a forest reserve. (Ref:Temple torn down without state's knowledge)

DEAR YB,
I THINK THE BN GOVERNMENT WAS GIVING THIS SAME CLASSIC EXPLANATION ALL THE WHILE.
THE SAME EXPLANATION THAT YOU (PR) REFUSE TO ACCEPT AND SPIN IT FOR YOUR POLITICAL MILEAGE?

GOOD JOB YBs. THIS IS TRULY ENLIGHTING!!!

HINDU TEMPLE DEMOLISHED!!! The 3 letter magical spell that made the indian community to vote against BN. Am i exaggerating? Those who watched the DVD/VCD's that contains the clips of such events ( generously given out for free by PR ) knows what i mean.

One can give 1001 reasons and explanations, but this issue is far beyond that to be just settle by WORDS.

Many ( everyone) asked where is MIC? What they are doing? If we talking about the past, go and ask this questions to the particular( demolished temples) temple's PIC ( person/group in charge) what was the real reason and what MIC actually did/ struggled.

But, as i said b4, this issue is far beyond that to be settle by words/ explanations.

WE WANT A SOLUTION TO PUT STOP TO THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!

MIC walked their talk and the community's wish in KL.

Temples in draft plan will not be demolished

ALL Hindu temples on government land situated in commercial zones in the Draft Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020 would not be demolished, Deputy Federal Territories Minister Datuk M. Saravanan said.

He said if temples situated on government land were affected by development projects undertaken by the Government, they would be given an alternative site for relocation, reported Malaysia Nanban.

He added that prior approval from City Hall was required for new temples to be built, even on private land.

Speaking to reporters on Friday after meeting representatives of the Malaysian Hindu Council over the draft, Saravanan said the ministry would allow the various communities to build their houses of worship in housing estates.
A message from YB Dato Saravanan ,
FT Dept. Minister , MIC Info Chief

“If you want to help sincerely, come and talk to the relevant authorities instead of using the media and the blogs to create hype,” Saravanan said.

He said this in the wake of articles published on the allegations of 120 temples missing from the Draft Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020.

“I challenge these people who make allegations to come up with the list of the missing temples. (Ref :Saravanan: Don’t use religious issues for political gain)

Of course there was no appreciation message or at least an acknowledgment from "those who" only interested in giving out anti-MIC statements ( claiming that they represent the community)

Well, a message for them from me ( a member of the community and rakyat malaysia), MIC, under the leadership of Dato Seri S. Samy vellu progressing with their walk on emulating the plan above nationwide. And its for the rakyat to judge who is walking ppl's wishes and demands for REAL!!!

My good friend Premnath posted a respond to the outrageous statement from Mr. Thanenthiran. (REF: Don't cross the line, Thanenthiran!)

There was a news posted at Hindraf's website on a Recent temple demolishing in selangor BY PAKATAN RAKYAT who championed the temple issue during GE-12. ( a very well staged drama to win indian's vote) ( Ref: Ulu langat temple demolished) ( REF :Bah Humbug!)

According to the post ( with photo's), the temple committee was approached by "pakatan rakyat ppl" and shamelessly requested or shall i say begged them not to inform this issue to the people.

NOW , WHO TO TRUST? THOSE WHO PLAYED WITH OUR EMOTIONS JUST TO WIN OUR VOTES??? OR THOSE WHO LOST ALMOST EVERYTHING AFTER GE-12 AND STILL WALKING THEIR TALK SINCERELY FOR THE COMMUNITY!!!

MIC- WALKING THE TALK

Greetings,

MIC, Malaysian Indian Congress, the symbol of malaysian indian unity. Thats what we used to hear , at least till last year. For most of malaysian indians, MIC was their true champion at least untill 2004 .Now, MIC is a 'punch bag' for many. Anything wrong with the community blame it on MIC!!!???

Now its time for a more transparent MIC. The rakyat wants to know whats happening. The rakyat choose to keep track on their walks.

After GE-12, HINDRAF's chairman wrote a letter to our PM. (letter to Y.A.B. DATO’ SERI ABDULLAH AHMAD BADAWI)

May we firstly congratulate your goodself and your party in winning the 12th General Election held on 8/03/2008.

As your goodselves have acknowledged the winds of change and the past mistakes, may we humbly propose that your goodselves form the Truth and Reconciliation Commission with regards to the very sad state of affairs, discrimination and maginalisation of especially the 80% Malaysian Indian poor. With the sincere formation of this commission we hope to move
forward and grow together from now onwards in the True spirit of oneness, and equality and equal opportunity for all the poor especially the Malaysian Indian poor and mostly importantly
humanity. The Malaysian Indians have persistently complained about the following:

(11) Hindu Temples are indiscriminately demolished at the rate of one Hindu Temple in every three weeks

I consider HINDRAF as the voice of malaysian indian community( a part). 17 demands/ complaints . Here i would like to highlight 1 of it. The demolishing of Hindu temples. And it is the responsibility of MIC to accept this complaint and resolve it. And this time the rakyat wants to see a open approach, a transparent walk.

So, FT MIC walking their talk on 'temple issue'. So, for once lets put aside our differences (political) and focus on community and nation interest.

I hope to see such progress nationwide on this issue. And it is only possible if all of us acknowledge and support their moves.

"When we speak with one voice, we will achieve our goals. When we act with one determination, nothing can stop us from fulfilling our dreams,"

Dear Brother,

I think that you got me wrong. I do not critcise the temples or the priests. Nothing wrong with them. Its we, who got to change.

Usually, when I throw a stone at somebody, it normally falls on a Hindu who does not know anything about Hinduism but claims that he knows everything about Hinduism. But this time it fell on a Hindu who knows something. And you turned back to see from the stone comes. Its from me.

There is something common in us. That is we both intended to do something for our community. Otherwise I would not have stumbled over your blog. But the difference is that I started some 40 years ago, while you just started. I am not saying anything abruptly. It is the result of observing something gone wrong with our society. I was born and brought up in an estate. I am not a graduate like you. I was only a President of a large temple. I want to share with you my experience of observing Indian problems (especially Hindus) in Malaysia. I have traveled widely including Sabah and Sarawak. I have read several books including Bhagavad Gita, Thiruvasagam, Thevaram. I have read the life history of saints and sages like Mahatma Ghandi, Swami Vivekhaanandha, Rabindranath Tagore, Paramahamsa Yogananda including Sai Baba. After reading such books and having a glimps of Vedhas and Upanishads, I must tell you that we are a proud lot of Hindus.

It all started when I was in the upper secondary school in the 60’s. Every Friday, about 11.00 am Christian boys from that school used to go to Bible studies while the Muslim students would go to Quran studies. But we hindus about 40 of us were left wondering at the corridors or play-grounds for the whole period. While the Christians and Muslims gained knowledge and discipline based on their respective religious text, we Hindus were not exposed to this spiritual knowledge and discipline. This was going on not only in my place but almost everywhere even till today. We are an ignorant lot.

After my secondary education, I got a job as a temporary teacher in Kulim during the early 70’s. I use to see fightings in temples in Kulim as I used to witness in my hometown, almost 200km away. There was hardly any festivals that went without fighting. Did you read in ‘Malaysia Nanban’ the fighting that erupted during the last ‘Chitra Pournami’ day? You can read in papers almost everyday the ongoing social problems faced by our community. We cannot deny this and sweep under the carpet. I can go on listing but that is not my purpose here for the moment. Please refer to MalaysiaSun.com dated Tues, 28th May, 2008.

When you want to do something for our community, you must first identify their weaknesses and formulate rectification. To do this, you must be sensitive enough to observe what’s happening. Compare with other communities in Malaysia. The Blacks in America came as slaves. Today, they emerge as an outstanding lots in every field, be it in music, sports, politics, fashion and education. In Malysia, look all the buildings and vehicles around. They are mostly owned by the Chinese. What is the secret behind this? It is their discipline. They are disciplined even in drinking, I mean liquior. They know when to drink and what to drink. But what is lacking in our Indian society today is spiritual discipline. Once we are disciplined spiritually, nothing can shake us. We will be strongly united. In future all our activities will be based on this discipline be it social, economy or political.

Now let me analyse one by one the points.
  1. I know what the temples are doing and I know what is temple ‘thondu’. Temple ‘thondu’ alone is not enough to alleviate thesufferings of the people. There are many poor Indians in Malaysia. They go to temple to pray so that God will come to their rescue. God will not come to the rescue; it is we who has to got to the ground to do service to them. Remember : ‘servive to manking is service to God’.‘Maanava sevai Maathava sevai’ In temples, I involve in meaningful ‘thondu’ that brings benefit to the members as well as non-members.

  1. Yes, the real purpose of chanting the mantras in Sanskrit is to derive the joy of communicating and praising the Lord. Slowly, but surely those who chant the mantras will be allevated to a higher level. Thereare several familiar God forms which we can invoke daily during our prayers; eg. Vinayaga, Siva, Vishnu, Muruga, Saraswathi, Mahalakshmi, Durga and other Prarthanais. (I will send you later themantras and their meaning). If you make effort to teach the childrenat an early age, they will surely benefit. They will feel proud to be a Hindu culture. Our youths and women folks in future will slowly get to know our God. This is my experience in the Sai Centres everywhere. Our Hindu children attending Bal Vikas in the centres, are chanting chanting these mantras in one voice. I use to wonder, why our Hindu children are not taught in the temples. I do not want to see our children in the temples deprived of this opportunity. When chanting this mantra (with knowing its meaning) together it promotes unity among the Hindus. Increase the knowledge on Hinduism. Only then we can organize other activities for the youths, women, studentsand others, thereby laying the foundation for progress of our community. Progress should proceed from the temple. Why can’t we teach the laymen and normal people these mantras. It is happening in Sai centres. When Chinese devotees can chant surely our people can. But the problem is that, due to the absent of good system, it is very difficult to adopt and implement such programmes in temples.

  1. Yes, about the youths, that was my comment after interviewing many Youths and observing their behaviour, whether they are university students or working. Because they lack knowledge on Hinduism, you cannot expect spiritual discipline among these youths. So, join a Sai Centre and learn their knowledge, expertise, skill and methodology of serving society.

Will be writing more.

Letter to Malaysiakini by Mr. Murugesan Sinnandavar ( MIC CWC Member)

(28th April, 2008), Malaysiakini reported that former MB of Selangor, Dr Khir Toyo stated that the Kg Karrupiah Temple (referred to by some as Rimba Jaya Temple or Padang Jawa Temple) breaking was ordered by MIC President Dato Seri S.Samy Vellu and that the temple was broken after Deepavali. This is my letter in reply to the editor of Malaysiakini.

To the Editor of Malaysiakini,

How could Dr. Mohd Khir Toyo say that the temple was broken two days after Deepavali? It was broken a week BEFORE Deepavali. Did the whole nation get it wrong? Or were all the reports and pictures in ALL the three Tamil Dailies of the broken temple, lies? Perhaps the former MB was referring to remnants of the temple structure that was left standing or the ‘temporary temple’ ‘rebuilt’ at the same site by some quarters after the initial breaking. However the Kg Karuppiah Maha Mariamman Temple as we know it was broken on the 30th October, 2007.

I was there on that day. The MBSA made the first attempt to break the temple in the morning around 9.00 am. They were stopped by the residence there and Shah Alam MIC Committee members. MBSA Officers then said that the temple will be broken by 12 noon and all the deities were to be removed by then. A number of youths began to gather at the temple site in an attempt to prevent the temple breaking.

MBSA kept to their word and made a charge around noon but was ordered to be stopped by the police as it turned violent. In the meantime fellow lawyer, Mr Sivanesan and me demanded MBSA to show that they had the authority to break the temple. The MBSA legal officer was called to the site but was unable to show a court order that specified that the temple be broken. He then resorted to a notice by MBSA. Upon inspection the notice was dated two years ago. We argued on the validity of the notice but the Legal Officer held his ground. A plea that the matter be referred to court to resolve ambiguity before the temple is broken also fell into deaf ears.

The Shah Alam Dato Bandar was there. He said he has his instructions and refused to budge. This was despite Mr Alex Thiagarajan (Klang MIC Chairman) telling the Dato Bandar that the temple breaking will have dire consequences for the BN government. The Dato Bandar gave the orders and ‘disappeared’ from the site. This was when MBSA made the final charge. Some youths were injured whilst others were arrested in the process. Some MBSA officers were also injured. With the youths that barricaded themselves between the MBSA officers and the temple removed, the bulldozer moved in.

The picture of the damaged the yellow structure shown in Malaysiakini’ s report is that of the temple’s ‘Mulla Staanum’ or inner sanctum. It is the most sacred place in the temple and the statute of the main deity is placed there in accordance with rites dating back thousands of years. Once the inner sanctum was damaged, the temple committee had no choice but to remove the statute of the main deity as they didn’t want the statute to be desecrated. All Hindus know that once the statute of the main deity is removed from the temple, the place ceases to be a temple.

Therefore the temple was broken on the 30th October, 2007. To say otherwise runs counter to irrefutable facts.
